COST FILE (INTXCT) Costing layers are created for the costing method being used. The costing system of Inventory creates a record in the Cost file (INTXCT) for each purchase of an item. The Cost file stores these records by event order which consists of the entry and post date. Negative Cost Layers - If inventory is sold that has no cost layers, a provisional cost is used and the system adds an oversold layer. When purchases are posted, the layers are replenished and the oversold layer is reduced. The costing method inputted in Name & Option / Item: Default Costing Method is used to calculate the cost of inventory when no costing method has been specified in the Item Master. The costing method inputted in Name & Option / Oversold: Default Costing Method is used to provide a provisional cost when on-hand quantities are equal or less than zero and an oversold method has not been specified in Item Master file. A user can eliminate oversold transactions in Inventory by forcing an error on the edit list. The switch can be found in Name & Options / Edit List Action. Cost file - There are eight layer types used in INTXCT: · 0 Active Cost Available Purchase Type · 1 Active Exhausted Purchase Type · 8 Active Sale Type - Not Oversold · 9 Active Oversold Sale Type · A Archived Cost Available Purchase Type · B Archived Exhausted Purchase Type · I Archived Sale Type - Not Oversold · J Archived Oversold Sale Type Both the layer types and the threading play an integral part in the 'drilling down' of the cost layers.
