Printing in PFW For quality printing in PFW on a Novell Network you should check the following: 1 When possible send print jobs directly to the Printer, this eliminates Windows Print Drivers and uses the Platinum Printer Files. 2 The PAS should run off a straight DOS client or NT client, the PAS program is a strictly DOS program and experiences many problems running from Windows95. 3 The PAS must be setup as a User off the Network itself, this way it can be Captured to Network printers and MIS can control the use of Form Feed, Tabs, Banners and Printer Timeouts. CAPTURE S=servername Q=printqname L1 NB NT NFF TI=100 4 Novells Printer Timeouts should be initially setup to 300secs, this plays a part in the alignment and compression of documents i.e checks and reports. 5 If you are not using the Novell Capture command you will need to use the Network Printer Name and Network Computer Name in Platinums Printer Maintenance. This however will automatically print a banner. If you are using the Capture command you should not enter anything in the Network Printer Name and Network Computer Name fields. 6 The PAS should be able to see a printer that is locally to a Workstation if you intend to print locally, this will be up to the MIS of your company to perform.
7 If you are unable to print anything from the PAS you should make sure the PAS can see the printer - from DOS use a dos command to print a test file to the Printer you are sending the job to ie copy Autoexec.bat LPT1: - if it does not print then there is a problem with the connection to the Network or a problem with the printer itself. 8 Check that all printer files in the User1, the PAS and the user directories.
