Error 3s

With regard to error 3’s, the suggested solutions are as follows:

1. Have everyone escape out of Platinum, and then have one user go back in.

2. If you still get the error, reboot the workstation.

3. If you are running on an NLM, see the below table for supported versions:

Platinum version Btrieve.NLM Brequest.exe

4.1,4.02 and Prior 6.10c 6.0

4.1a 6.10c 6.10e

PFW 4.2 6.15 6.15

(no Dos version)

4. Compare the startup file used by the good user and the rejected users.

5. Are the rejected users recognized by Platinum, or are they logging in as User 1. Check this in the Set Security Levels option and verify that the user’s name appears at the top of the screen. If User 1 appears, then start Platinum using the below command at the DOS prompt.

Netstart/User:user_name

6. Error 3 has been caused when the Multi-Format key is not defined in the GL interface file.

7. Compare the ownership and rights of the files of the valid user and the rejected users. All the files should be flagged RWS - Read/Write/Sharable.

8. If Error 57 is also encountered, then this is an indication that VLM’s are being used. The older version of VLMs are not supported- please use Netx or upgrade to at least version 1.20 of the VLM code.

9. If all else fails, reinstall the module that you are receiving the error in.

10. Error 3 followed by Error 57 while printing is usually to do with the timeout in the CAPTURE command being set too low. If the report while processing exceeds the limit set and then it attempts to write to the printer these errors occur. So increase the timeout in the CAPTURE command. We have seen this timeout set to as high as 150. This limit may not be necessary in your case but attempt to find the optimum limit.
