Defining the GLOTHER file: Defining the GLOTHER file: The first record in the file MUST contain the ASCII representation of the numeric value of how many records are in the file (inclusive of the first). All other records must follow the format illustrated below. Your records do not need to be sorted in any particular order, nor do they need to balance debits and credits. However, we strongly recommend they do balance! The format of the GLOTHER file is as follows : FILE NAME : GLOTHER RECORD LENGTH : 80
This is not a straight ASCII file as many know it. It is an 80 character length Basic Random file. That means that 80 character spaces make up one record, and that there is NOT a carriage return/line feed to signify the end of each record. Instead, the details of each record are entered consecutively and must conform to a fixed positioning standard: meaning that after one field is defined, the spacebar must be pressed until the exact beginning character position of the next field is reached. There is, however one carriage return/line feed to signify the End of the File. |
