Zoom Windows on Description or Name Fields:

Zoom Windows on Description or Name Fields:

Platinum ships with only the first 10 characters indexed in the description fields. Therefore, when you zoom on a description field it sequences on the first ten characters.

Users typically have a problem with this when they zoom in OE or AR Entry and can only select the first customer from a group of customers with similiar names. Two customers with the same first ten characters may not print in alphabetical order.

The data files are pre-initialized by Platinum and shipped in the \PLATINUM\DATA directory defining only the first ten characters of the description field as the index key. This was done to reduce he overhead the file would incur with regards to disk space and reduce the processing time to add a record to the file of a 30 or 40 character key. However, using Xtrieve or Magic PC, you can work around this problem by performing the following commands:

1.)Backup the data file.

2.)Create the data file in Xtrieve using Dictionary/Reorganize/Finished- Create. It is important to note that All Case sensitivities have to be changed to YES.

3.)The file will be created in the \PLATINUM\XTRIEVE directory.

4.)Copy this file from the \PLATINUM\XTRIEVE directory to \PLATINUM\DATA.

5.)Delete the data file from the \PLATINUM\XTRIEVE directory.

6.)Recover the data file using the PLatinum Recover Utility in System Manager.

If you receive a Record Buffer too Short error then you did not change the Case Sensitivities to Yes. You should go back to Xtrieve and reorganize the indexes.
